The government plans to almost double the number of such tourists
The Russian government has approved a plan for the development of automobile tourism until 2035.
As reported in the government telegram channel, the concept will unite the efforts of different levels of government and business in order to synchronize the construction of such diverse infrastructure.
The main stated goals of the plan are:
- creating comfortable and safe conditions for traveling on roads;
- increasing the accessibility of tourist sites and the quality of road services.
Such trips should be comfortable for people. This requires not only main highways, but also small roads to tourist sites with gas stations, mobile communications, equipped parking lots, and hotels.

The plan involves two stages of implementation. As part of the first, which is scheduled for this year and next, it is planned to develop a program for the development of automobile tourism. In particular, an action plan will be created, including the preparation of proposals for new measures of state support and conditions for the development of auto tourism and related infrastructure. In addition, an interactive map of automobile tourist routes will be created, including the pilot route St. Petersburg — Vladivostok. The map will indicate the locations of tourist infrastructure and road services.
The second stage is scheduled for the period from 2025 to 2035. For this decade, it is planned to improve legislation and state support measures aimed at the development of autotourism, implement measures aimed at increasing the network of automobile tourist routes and infrastructure facilities, launch an interactive map of infrastructure facilities, and provide feedback to autotourists to assess the quality of services provided.
According to the authorities, the program should allow increasing the number of tourists traveling on Russian roads from the current 23 million to 42 million people, and this industry will bring about 250 billion rubles to the treasury per year.
