The production of the machine will be organized in Thailand
Toyota has made a decision regarding the all-new Hilux pickup — with an electric power plant: the car will be put into mass production. Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Asia Pras Ganesh told Reuters that the Hilux REVO BEV (as the prototype is now called) will hit the assembly line at the end of 2025.
Thailand was not chosen by chance: in the country, pickup trucks account for more than 50% of all car sales. That's why the electric Isuzu D-MAX BEV debuted in Thailand, and it's what the Hilux REVO BEV will compete with.
Pras Ganesh did not go into technical details — he only said that the Hilux REVO BEV will have a range of about 200 km (exactly the same range as the Isuzu D-MAX BEV). Autonomy is not great, but here the automaker has to balance between range and payload. «The longer the range, the larger the battery needs to be installed. This means that the car also becomes significantly heavier, then the payload will be much less», — said Pras Ganesh.
Pre-production Toyota Hilux Revo has already been turned into minibuses in Thailand: the capacity of the pickup's traction battery is 71.4 kW·h.
