The list does not include the newest projects
Intel has expanded support for its Application Optimization (APO) feature by adding several new games.
The function, we recall, appeared back in the fall, but all this time it supported only two games: Metro Exodus and Rainbow 6 Siege. Now the following projects have been added to the list:
- Final Fantasy XIV
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- World of Tanks
- Dreams Three Kingdoms 2
- F1 22
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Serious Sam 4
- Strange Brigade
- Watch Dog Legion
- World War Z
- Dirt 5
- World of Warcraft
It remains to be seen how well APO will perform in these games, but in the first two the increase was huge: up to 20%.
There are also restrictions regarding CPU compatibility. Full support is available only for the latest 14th generation Core, and even then only starting with Core i7. However, there is a way to run APO on 12th and 13th generation Core processors, including lower-end Core i3s.
Recall that APO is an evolution of Thread Director technology, which optimizes workloads based on the specific software being used and the underlying architecture best suited for the task. The essence of APO's work is quite simple: a certain game (for now we are only talking about games) is added by Intel to the list of supported ones, and APO adjusts the work of the Thread Director, making the processor more efficient in a specific game.
Today we also saw what the latest Core i9-14900KS is capable of, which can consume over 500W of power.
