They convince clients not to transfer money right on the spot
Bank «Tinkoff» tested and launched the work of special mobile teams consisting of Tinkoff Protection employees. They go to the victims of scammers right at the moment when they plan to transfer money to the attackers. Rapid response teams are urgently sent to people who are under strong psychological influence from scammers and convince them not to make fatal financial transactions. Visiting the site is practiced if before this the employees of «Tinkoff Protection» failed to convince the client over the phone or in chat.
The bank notes that this is actually a serious problem: often the victims of fraudsters are under such strong psychological influence that when the bank blocks a suspicious transaction and tries to save clients’ money, they do not believe the bank employees and insist on transferring money to criminals. Fraudsters use well-established psychological techniques: they appeal to the authority of government agencies, pose as employees of law enforcement agencies, or play on the trust of family and friends.
Oleg Zamiralov, deputy head of the Tinkoff Center for Ecosystem Security, noted that some clients even seem to fall into a trance and it is very difficult to get them out of this state remotely. Therefore, the bank began sending special emergency anti-fraud and psychological assistance teams to the victims in order to “unzombify” them. According to Zamiralov, such measures help to convince 95% of clients; the rest, unfortunately, do not agree to cancel fraudulent transactions. Calls from psychologists to clients were also tried, but they turned out to be less effective. Monthly «Tinkoff» conducts up to 3 thousand meetings with such clients; over the year, employees of mobile teams saved clients from losses of 21 billion rubles.
