Volkswagen has already made an official statement
Thousands of Porsches, Bentleys and Audis were detained at US ports after a Volkswagen supplier discovered a Chinese component in the vehicles that violated anti-forced labor laws.
The automaker delayed vehicle deliveries until the end of March after noticing an electronic component that appeared to have come from «western China».
Sources stressed that Volkswagen was unaware of the origin of the part, which was sourced from a supplier further down the supply chain, until the supplier alerted it to the problem. Volkswagen notified US authorities as soon as the part's origin became known.
The United States is banning the import of products produced using forced labor in the western region of Xinjiang and other areas of China under the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act of 2021. Sources confirmed that this part was produced in Xinjiang itself.
The problem affects about 1,000 Porsche sports cars and crossovers, several hundred Bentleys and several thousand Audis, according to people briefed on the details.
Volkswagen said in a statement that the company «takes allegations of human rights violations both within the company and in its supply chain very seriously«including «any allegations of forced labor».
