This is one of the first orders from Intel regarding the Intel 18A
process technology
Intel appears to have secured a notable client for its cutting-edge process technology. The agreement was announced by Faraday Technology.
Faraday published a press release where it said that it would collaborate with Arm and Intel in the development of a new single-chip system, initially focused on the Intel 18A process technology.
We are talking about a 64-core SoC based on Arm Neoverse technology. This chip will be focused on data centers, peripheral infrastructure and 5G platforms. Faraday said the SoC will also have different interface IP addresses from the Arm Total Design ecosystem, but did not specify which IP addresses it would supported. Presumably we are talking about PCIe, CXL and DDR5.
It is also important to note that Faraday itself will not produce these processors at Intel's facilities. Instead, it will develop the product and then offer it to customers, who can make some changes and then order the chips themselves from Intel.
This is one of Intel's first orders for the Intel 18A process technology. Previously, the company received an order from the US Department of Defense.
