Zuckerberg's fortune tripled
Recent data shows that the richest people, including Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, got richer in 2023.
Of the 50 richest people in the world, only 12 lost money in 2023, while the rest got richer. Of the 500 richest people, 77% became even richer, and some of them became very rich.
Musk tops the chart with an estimated net worth of $238 billion, according to daily wealth data of the world's top 500 billionaires compiled by Bloomberg.
Tesla shares have more than doubled this year, giving it a nominal market value of nearly $816 billion and boosting Musk, Tesla's largest shareholder, to his total wealth by nearly $100 billion. This increase exceeds Angola's annual GDP.
Over the course of a year, his rival, Mark Zuckerberg, with whom he was supposed to fight in the Octagon, tripled his fortune, but then abandoned the idea. The Facebook founder's fortune soared 184%, from $45 billion to $129 billion, as Meta* 's value rose 172% year-on-year.
After a disastrous 2022, in which Meta's value collapsed due to shareholder concerns that the company was spending too much on penetrating the so-called metaverse and ignoring its core businesses, the company's stock has recovered almost all of its losses. < /p>
Bernard Arnault was in second place with a fortune of $179 billion, which grew by $17.2 billion thanks to the activities of his luxury group LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
The list of billionaires is dominated by American men.
