A joke about DOOM launching on Pokémon gave an enthusiast an interesting idea. He did the research and made it happen
The cult shooter DOOM is launching on a variety of platforms. The community has seen the game on an ATM machine, a pregnancy test, sound waves, and even E. coli.
However, the list of non-standard platforms for playing DOOM is still not exhausted. A user under the nickname adef drew attention to humorous questions on the social network about the launch of DOOM on the “Spinda Pattern”.
Spinda is a Pokémon, and “Pattern” refers to the pattern of appearance. The fact is that this creature has four spots that are randomly located on its body (a code corresponding to its appearance is formed).
adef was able to figure out how to use this to launch DOOM and released a video dedicated to his research. It turned out that he was not the only such experimenter – he contacted another enthusiast who drew a clip using a Pokemon pattern. His program helped in this work.
It’s hardly possible to play normally on one Spinda pattern – on Spinda’s face the “resolution” is very, very small (there are only four spots to draw the image ). adef played around with the size of the Pokemon and its placement on the screen, but it didn't turn out very well.
However, adef then suggested increasing the number of Pokemon and creating something like a mosaic.
This is what a bunch of Spinda patterns look like – in each “square” of the image there is a Pokemon with a certain pattern of appearance, they form the familiar gameplay of the classic shooter DOOM (if you look closely, you can see the characteristic outlines of objects).
During the game the pattern is transformed, which allows you to draw new frames – the experiment of running DOOM on Pokemon was successful.
