Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car division of Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Motors, will begin accepting pre-orders for its modular flying car in the fourth quarter of this year.
The company, based in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, plans to begin mass production and delivery of flying cars to individual users in the fourth quarter of next year, according to the company's vice president Qiu Mingquan.
«Modular flying cars will be sold to individual users only after obtaining airworthiness approvals, certification and approval from national regulatory authorities and product safety agencies», — Qiu Mingquan said.
The Land Aircraft Carrier flying car consists of a wheeled and flying module that can be separated. Each module is certified in accordance with aviation and automotive regulations. The VTOL aircraft will boast a panoramic two-seat cockpit with a 270-degree view.
The wheeled part of the Land Carrier is designed for 4–5 people. The car will have a three-axle six-wheel design, providing 6 x 6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering. This contributes to increased payload and off-road performance.
A fully electric manned aircraft (air module) will be able to fly at low altitudes. Its electric propulsion system meets the safety requirements for single propeller failure, and the eVTOL supports controlled flights and an autopilot system.
Aside from personal use, the modular flying car could also potentially be used in public services, including emergency response, Qiu said.
Price must be at least $140,000.
