These are pictures of the Arctic – the Barents Sea near the Spitsbergen archipelago
Hydrometeorological spacecraft «Meteor-M» No. 2-4, launched into orbit last week, sent back the first data obtained using one of the target instruments — multispectral satellite imaging complex (KMSS-2). The device was turned on for the first time yesterday, March 5, at 15:27 Moscow time. Experts have received the first images of the Arctic (the Barents Sea near the Spitsbergen archipelago).
KMSS-2 device on the «Meteor-M» satellite No. 2-4 is designed for multispectral imaging of the Earth in the visible and near-infrared ranges of electromagnetic radiation. The survey bandwidth is about 1000 km, and the spatial resolution — 60 m.
Data from KMSS-2 are successfully used to monitor land use, agriculture and forestry, wildfires, flood conditions, snow cover, ice conditions, volcanic activity and tracking natural hazards – typhoons, cyclones, hurricanes, etc. This information will be useful to such organizations as Roshydromet, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Roscosmos, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Rosleskhoz and others.
