Launch of the first demonstration satellite for the Internet of Things «Marathon-IoT» moved, as reported by the TASS agency with reference to Roscosmos. The state corporation noted that the launch was postponed for the purpose of additional checks of the software, as well as clarifying the program of additional research. When these problems are solved, «Marathon-IoT» will go into space as a passing payload.

Previously, the experimental satellite was planned to be sent into orbit in the first quarter of 2024 (approximately at the end of February) from the Vostochny cosmodrome on a Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle. together with the hydrometeorological satellite «Meteor-M» No. 2-4. It was noted that «Marathon-IoT» will be the first Russian satellite to include elements created using 3D printing. New launch dates for the device have not yet been specified.

Satellite constellation «Marathon-IoT» should be created within the framework of the «Sphere» project to provide Internet of Things services, it will include more than 250 devices weighing up to 50 kg each. It is assumed that mass production of «Marathon-IoT» will start this year. By 2025, 5 such satellites should be released, and by 2026 — 44 pieces.
