Head of the Ministry of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar spoke on the CNN Turk television channel when it is planned to launch the first reactor of the Russian-Turkish nuclear power plant Akkuyu.
«The first reactor of the Akkuyu NPP planned to launch this year», — stated Alparslan Bayraktar, and also clarified that so far the builders are focusing on the end of October, when Turkey celebrates a national holiday — Republic Day.
«October 29 — this is our goal, the start of electricity production at nuclear power plants on the 101st anniversary of the proclamation of the republic will be very significant,” added the head of the Turkish Ministry of Energy.
Recall that Akkuyu NPP is being created by the Russian state corporation Rosatom. This is the first nuclear power plant in Turkey and the largest nuclear construction project in the world at the moment. The project includes four power units with Russian-designed VVER generation III+ reactors. The capacity of each nuclear power plant unit will be 1.2 thousand MW. This is the world's first nuclear power plant implemented using the Build-Own-Operate model.
A month ago it became known that the first reactor of the Russian-Turkish nuclear power plant «Akkuyu» ready to load nuclear fuel. A 300-ton crane has been installed in the building of the first power unit of the nuclear power plant and turbine generator equipment is being installed.
