According to the head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, the restart of car production at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is planned for the first half of this year. The minister spoke about this in an interview with TASS journalists. Let us remind you that the Russian company «Art-Finance» became the owner of the Kaluga Volkswagen plant in May last year. The German concern sold Russian assets for 125 million euros.

Manturov reported that the Russian owners of the former Volkswagen plant have found a foreign industrial partner, and production of the first products in Kaluga should begin in the first half of 2024. The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade did not disclose information about which company became this partner. Until the spring of 2022, the Volkswagen automobile plant in Kaluga produced Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Rapid models, the production capacity of the enterprise — 225 thousand cars per year.
