“Cyberpickup” is not afraid of 9 mm bullets
A video of a Tesla Cybertruck pickup being tested for resistance… to bullets has appeared on the Internet. Even at the dawn of the creation of the car, Elon Musk promised that the pickup would be armored, now it’s time to answer for your words.
This official video was shown in the United States during the premiere of the production Cybertruck a couple of days ago. It turned out that the car was tested with three automatic weapons: a Thompson submachine gun, a Glock 9 mm caliber pistol, and an MP5-SD submachine gun of the same 9 mm caliber.
As you can see, none of the bullets penetrated the outer door panel of the pickup truck, although it did leave some significant dents. Apparently, the car is really not afraid of shots from a 9-mm automatic weapon, but if the caliber is larger, then most likely the Cybertruck will not be able to withstand it. But in any case, this is an unprecedented level of protection for a production car.
The Tesla Cybertruck's exterior panels are made from ultra-hard cold-rolled stainless steel. While a typical car's door panels are 0.7-1mm thick, the Cybertruck's door panel is 3mm thick. Stainless steel is also more resistant to tearing than regular steel doors, which is why in the video the bullet is stretching the steel rather than tearing it.
