The cost of developing Tekken 8 has tripled compared to the previous part. This was announced by series producer Katsuhiro Harada, talking about how much the situation has changed over the years.
On Twitter, Harada used criticism of Tekken 8's microtransactions to justify high production costs.
“Cost today development is ten times higher than in the 1990s, and about double or triple that of Tekken 7. Even the Fight Lounge servers are expensive to maintain. Previously, games did not have so many functions and an online section.
In addition, games did not have such resolution and high definition. Now many people want the game to work and be supported for a long time. Constant updating requires money.”
Harada explained that the current lack of support for the game means its death in a few months. But such support requires money, which can often be obtained through microtransactions that cover all costs.
