Over the past years, many have become accustomed to discussing in terms of minimum-recommended system requirements, but NVIDIA proposes to expand the list

A few years ago, NVIDIA introduced Portal with RTX on Steam. Valve's classic has been thoroughly updated, making it a very technologically advanced game that can challenge modern video cards of the GeForce RTX 4090 level.

In 2024, Portal with RTX is back in the spotlight. The fact is that users noticed a slight change in the system requirements of the project on the game’s page on Steam.

Many are accustomed to the fact that a combination of minimum-recommended system requirements is usually offered, but here they were met by another level called “Ultra”. As noted, a similar entry appeared after the release of an update that added support for ray reconstruction and NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 to Portal with RTX, and previously there were “classic” system requirements (minimum + recommended).

It is possible that other developers will look at NVIDIA’s experience, and on Steam in the foreseeable future it will be possible to see other examples when developers begin to specify Ultra settings. Nowadays, this is the practice when publishing “general” system requirements – they offer a table for your review, where there is a breakdown of settings like 1080p/30FPS; 1080/60FPS, etc.
