The investigation began in February
The well-known language learning service Duolingo has come under the radar of Roskomnadzor.
The agency reportedly sent Duolingo a warning regarding the ban on LGBT* propaganda (*recognized as an extremist movement and banned) in Russia. More precisely, we are talking about a letter that says «about the ban on the publication of materials promoting non-traditional sexual relationships, demanded that its content be checked for the spread of LGBT propaganda».
Roskomnadzor began checking Duolingo in February, allegedly after an appeal from the Siberian human rights group «Radetel», which was contacted by «concerned parents» from Ufa. Cause of concern — the presence in educational materials of references to persons with non-traditional sexual orientation.
