New firmware can now be installed

Sony has released a system software update for its new PlayStation 5 game console. The update  has an impressive size of 1.19 GB and brings not only the general stability and performance improvements that we are accustomed to. As the manufacturer notes in the release note, firmware number 24.04-09.40.00 provides several functional innovations at once.

Discord support was already available on Sony's console, but the latest update makes it easier for players to access voice chat. Users can now create and join Discord voice chats directly from PS5.

In addition, children's PlayStation Network accounts can now be linked to third-party services and applications to access additional gaming features. The company explained:

PS5 minors using child accounts can now link them to access features such as Discord voice chat, music streaming from Apple Music and Spotify, and gameplay broadcast to YouTube and Twitch.

New parental control features are available to parents and guardians. They notify you when children's accounts are linked to third-party services and applications, and also allow you to manage such linking.

System updates are usually automatically downloaded to the console. You can also download the latest firmware manually through the PS5 system settings (Settings> System> System Software> System Software Update).
