President of Rostelecom Mikhail Oseevsky at the exhibition «Russia» stated that the company will release the first samples of base stations for mobile communications at its enterprises before mid-2024.
He added that the next stage of import substitution for Rostelecom enterprises is achieving technological sovereignty, which is what they are currently focused on.
«We made a lot of effort last year, our largest plant in St. Petersburg is now working in two shifts, producing various telco equipment. <…> Another global question for all companies — satellite connection. This is a matter of not only investment, but also integration with the technologies that we use today», — stated Oseevsky.
From 2028, Russian telecom operators will be required to purchase base stations that are produced only in Russia. In December 2022, Rostelecom signed forward contracts for the creation of software and hardware systems for mobile infrastructure with Russian companies.
