State Corporation «Rosatom» demonstrated its floating nuclear power plant project for the foreign market. He was presented at the XII International Meeting of High Representatives in charge of security issues, which is currently taking place in St. Petersburg under the auspices of the Security Council of the Russian Federation. The floating nuclear power plant PEB-100 with an electrical capacity of 100 megawatts includes two RITM-200M reactors, its service life is designed for 60 years.
Rosatom currently operates the world’s only floating nuclear thermal power plant in the city of Pevek in Chukotka. The station consists of onshore infrastructure and a floating power unit «Akademik Lomonosov» with the KLT-40S reactor plant. According to experts, floating nuclear power units can provide electricity to remote areas and industrial facilities where the construction of high-power stations is impossible.
Floating nuclear power plants are considered an advanced green technology for generating electricity. Rosatom previously reported that such power units have great commercial potential in Russia and abroad: dozens of countries and regions are showing interest in them.
