Peak solar activity is expected from January to October 2024
A flare occurred on the Sun, the like of which has not occurred since 2017. This was reported by many thematic sites that monitor space phenomena and weather.
A flare with intensity X2.8 occurred at about 20:00 Moscow time on December 14, 2023. This is the most powerful flare since September 2017, when the Sun produced a flare with an intensity of X9.3. This is also the most powerful flare of 2023; before that, the leader was the flare on February 17, the intensity of which was X2.2 points.
The outbreak has already «caused a deep blackout of shortwave radio communications over North and South America». Experts warn of possible magnetic storms, the first of which is expected on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts that the current 25th solar cycle will peak between January and October 2024.
