Mozilla blocked access from Russia to Firefox extensions used to bypass blocking

In the Chrome Web Store catalog for Chromium-based browsers, these extensions are still available from Russia

The Mozilla organization began blocking Russian users from accessing some Firefox browser extensions that allowed them to bypass regional blocking. The problem with access from Russia to extensions in the official AMO catalog (addons.mozilla.org) was noticed by the thematic resource OpenNET.

It is noted that the blocking affected public VPN and proxy services (PlanetVPN, FastProxy) and means of bypassing Internet blocking (Censor Tracker, «Bypassing Runet blocking»). If a user from Russia tries to open a page with this extension, he will see the message «This page is not available in your region».

The developers themselves did not receive warnings about blocking from Mozilla or Roskomnadzor. However, Mozilla representatives told «Kommersant» the following:

After recent regulatory changes in Russia, we began to receive persistent requests from Roskomnadzor demanding that we remove five extensions from the Mozilla extension store. After careful consideration, we have temporarily limited their availability in Russia. Recognizing the implications of these actions, we are carefully considering next steps with our local community in mind.
