After government approval
Moscow Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that testing of an unmanned tram with passengers is planned to begin before the end of this year. According to him, the launch of an unmanned tram with passengers will become possible after the government decree is issued, which will allow this to be done. Such an order should appear this summer.
Test trips with passengers will begin in Moscow on route 10 from Kulakova Street to the Shchukinskaya metro station. At the last stage of testing — approximately by the end of 2025 — it is planned to ensure completely unmanned movement of the tram with passengers and without a driver at the control panel. In the meantime, the tram is moving around Moscow without passengers: to date it has already traveled more than 100 kilometers; while the driver is in the cab.
