BestCarWeb reports that Mitsubishi is working on a new generation Pajero Sport SUV. Considering that the current model debuted in 2015, a successor has been asking for a long time.
Pajero Sport – this is not a Pajero. «Sports» the version is traditionally built on the basis of the Triton pickup truck (aka L200), and the new (already sixth) generation of this pickup truck debuted last year. This will become the basis for the new Pajero Sport.
This means that the new generation SUV will become slightly larger and have a more durable frame, as well as a new 2.4-liter diesel engine producing from 150 to 204 hp. and combined with a manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Pajero Sport will inherit from the latest Triton and two versions of all-wheel drive: rigidly connected Easy Select 4WD and Super Select 4WD-II with a central differential reduction gear and several operating modes for different types of surface.
The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will compete with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 250, which debuted last year, and probably not only in the world, but also in its native Japan. According to BestCarWeb, the Pajero Sport could return to the home market just like the Triton did last year. Mitsubishi said that the final decision on whether the new Pajero Sport will be sold in Japan will be made on the basis of Triton sales volumes: that is, if the pickup truck comes in, then the Japanese will be offered an SUV.
