Microsoft has finally released a tool to fix the Windows bug that caused printers to be renamed HP M101-M106.

In early December, users reported a strange Windows crash that caused all printers to start renaming themselves HP M101-M106. At that time, Microsoft did not yet know what the reason was, but promised the victims to fix the error. Now the company has released a tool that will restore printers to their previous state and also eliminate the unnecessary HP Smart app.

The troubleshooter is available in the Microsoft Download Center. Users are required to download the file corresponding to the device as specified in the «File Information» section. The company explained:

This tool will check your printer information. It will restore all previously downloaded model information and icons and remove HP LaserJet M101-M106 model information, icons and application associations from printers that do not match that name and model. This tool will remove the HP Smart app if incorrect metadata is detected, no HP printers or HP printer drivers are installed, and the app was installed after November 25, 2023.
