Lenovo ThinkBook TGX will allow you to create the most powerful external graphics cards. This case supports Oculink

Oculink is faster than Thunderbolt 4

Lenovo has introduced a case for an external video card, equipped with an Oculink port.

The ThinkBook TGX model differs from most other similar devices in this way, since cases usually rely on Thunderbolt for creating external video cards. But while Thunderbolt 5 has not yet really appeared on the market, Oculink, with its data transfer speed of 64 Gbps, is the fastest interface for such tasks. Let's remember that Thunderbolt 3 and 4 provide up to 40 Gbps.

Considering that modern top-end video cards are limited even by the capabilities of Oculink, it is clear that Thunderbolt has an even stronger impact on performance.

Of course, to use Oculink, you need the PC, whatever it is, to also have such a port. Now the connector is found on some portable set-top boxes and sometimes on laptops, but its prevalence is quite low.

ThinkBook TGX supports video cards up to 358 mm in length. That's a lot, but there's already at least one Zotac RTX 4090 model on the market that's longer. The thickness of the adapter should not exceed 72 mm.

The case does not have a built-in power supply, but there is room for it inside. It remains to add that for the ThinkBook TGX in China they are asking $206.
