Lots of Twitter posts from Japanese gamers suggest that Rise of the Ronin is a lot more enjoyable than the reviews suggest.

One of the users said that foreign review standards are quite strange. He pointed out positive reviews of Dragon's Dogma 2 and even wondered if Western media were lowering scores due to political correctness.

Others commented on the game's historical setting, arguing that with a fantasy theme it would have been better appreciated. But one thing that seems to be clear from all the reports is that Japanese gamers enjoyed Team Ninja's latest release.

Some gamers noted that the Japanese would likely enjoy the game more due to cultural and historical significance of the era.

It's interesting to note that Rise of the Ronin received much better reviews from Japanese critics as well. For example, Famitsu's review was one of the earliest and rated the game 37/40. open world. Despite its promising combat system, Rise of the Ronin didn't live up to expectations.
