Intel, this is all good, but do users need it? The company boasted that its Core Ultra processors already support more than 500 artificial intelligence models

But for now these are more just dry numbers

Intel announced that its Core Ultra processors already support more than 500 artificial intelligence models.

The company says this milestone is the result of Intel's investments in client AI, AI-to-PC transformation, infrastructure optimization and AI tools, including the OpenVINO toolset. Those same five thousand models are available in popular industry sources, including OpenVINO Model Zoo, Hugging Face, ONNX Model Zoo and PyTorch.

The company reasonably notes that there is a direct relationship between the number of models included/optimized and the range of user-centric AI features that can be brought to market. Without models, it is impossible to design a function. Without execution time optimization, the function will not be able to achieve maximum performance.

All this is good for the development of the AI PC market, however, it is unclear how many of these 500 models are implemented in the form of software that is interesting and needed, if not by the majority of users, but at least by a noticeable part. Let us remind you that later this year we will receive a major update to Windows 11 24H2, which will also bring AI functions integrated into the OS, and then, perhaps, Core Ultra and Ryzen 7040/8040 processors will reveal their potential. However, Nvidia reminded yesterday that GPUs are best suited for working with AI, and that’s why many of us have had AI PCs for a long time.
