Intel has created a new business unit. It's called the Intel Foundry, and the company itself says it's the world's first manufacturer of systems for the age of artificial intelligence.
It’s not very clear from the press release, but it seems that Intel Foundry — a new name for the processor giant's semiconductor business.
The newly created division has already held its first event, where, among other things, a fresh road map was presented, as well as a new technical process.
It was Intel 14A, which will replace Intel 18A. The latter, we recall, should debut in Lunar Lake processors at the end of this year. Intel 14A in turn is expected between 2025 and 2027, and there is no data yet on which processors will be produced according to these standards.
The head of Microsoft also spoke at the event, saying that the company will use the Intel 18A process technology to produce some of its chips.
In general, Intel said it aims to become the second largest semiconductor company by 2030.
