It will be sent to the customer soon
The prototype of the hybrid contact-battery DC electric locomotive EMKA2 was shown in St. Petersburg last August, and now the first production machine has been manufactured: the Transmashholding plant in Novocherkassk is preparing to send it to the customer.
In «Transmashholding» EMKA2 is called «a significant achievement of domestic science and technology». The electric locomotive is designed to work in depots or at passenger stations — where it is undesirable to use diesel vehicles.
Hybridity lies in the fact that EMKA2 can operate both from the contact network and from the on-board storage. The capacity of the traction battery is enough to pull a train weighing up to 2 thousand tons over a distance of up to 14 km. Without the train, EMKA2 can travel up to 100 km.
