Renowned mobile game developer Gameloft has announced significant staff cuts in Romania. The company plans to lay off 136 employees and close its studio in Cluj (Cluj-Napoca).

The decision was part of a wide-ranging restructuring aimed at optimizing costs and adapting to the rapidly changing video game market.

A Gameloft Romania representative said:

“As a company, we are forced to continually reevaluate our production capabilities. After careful consideration and in response to the ever-changing market conditions we face, it became necessary to reduce our workforce. Unfortunately, this resulted in the closure of our Cluj studio and the layoff of 136 office staff.”

Closing the studio in Cluj is a painful step both for the employees and for the company itself. Gameloft emphasizes that it is working to find the best possible solutions for affected employees. The company plans to provide support by offering job search assistance and counseling.
