Three sources reported this at once
Chinese company Huawei asked Audi and Mercedes-Benz if they were interested in buying small stakes in its company that makes software and components for smart cars. Three sources confirmed that this step is aimed at expanding partnerships beyond Chinese brands. In addition, Huawei hopes that the presence of foreign investors will help protect the business from potential further geopolitical tensions and new sanctions.
Last month, the Chinese tech giant said it would spin off its Intelligent Automotive Solution (IAS) unit, which aims to become a dominant supplier of software and components for smart electric vehicles. Sources previously said the company would be valued between $28 billion and $35 billion.

According to two sources, Huawei has held preliminary talks with Mercedes in recent weeks. One source said the German brand has been offered a 3% to 5% stake, the value of which will be negotiated.
But the source added that Mercedes was not interested because the company wants to continue using its software to maintain its premium brand positioning.
Two sources said that Audi and Huawei are planning a partnership to develop autonomous driving technologies for Audi. These technologies will be used in cars for the Chinese market from 2025, which will be produced by the German automaker jointly with FAW Group.
