Musk was one of the founders of the startup
ChatGPT developers OpenAI have refuted Elon Musk's claim that the startup has abandoned its original mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity, instead thinking about profit.
Recall that earlier the billionaire filed a lawsuit against a startup, of which he was once one of the founders. Musk said the Microsoft-backed startup is now focused only on money.
According to OpenAI, Musk wanted the company to merge with Tesla. OpenAI said the proposal comes after Musk and the company decided the next step would be to create a commercial entity in 2017 to raise capital to build artificial general intelligence (AGI).
The billionaire entrepreneur then wanted a majority stake, initial control of the board of directors, and became OpenAI's CEO. But OpenAI and Musk could not agree on the terms of commercial activity, because the startup believed that complete control over the company was wrong for any person.
In his lawsuit, Musk stated that the three founders of OpenAI initially agreed to work on AGI — the concept that machines can solve problems just like humans, but in a way that «benefits humanity».
«We are sad that this case has come to court with someone we deeply admire — with someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, founded a competitor, and then sued us when we started to succeed without him», — said OpenAI.
