Google wanted to buy Epic Games for Fortnite on Stadia

During one of the recent court hearings, “Epic Games v. Google,” internal correspondence was disclosed, from which it became known about Google’s desire to buy Epic Games in order to get Fortnite on Stadia.

With the help of Fortnite, the tech giant hoped to attract buyers to Android and Stadia. Plans existed as early as 2018, which shows that the company is clearly ambitious regarding its gaming goals.

Google later offered Epic Games $147 million for Fortnite exclusivity on the Play Store. Ultimately, this proposal was abandoned as the brand was deemed more valuable to be limited to one platform.

Since projects like the launch of the Epic Games Store are still unprofitable, this move would not be very profitable for the tech giant. But it shows that the company was desperate for Fortnite.
