The JLH-4G20TDB motor, jointly developed by Geely and Volvo, has several weak points
Edition «Behind the wheel» revealed the weaknesses of the JLH-4G20TDB engine, which is installed on the popular Geely Monjaro and Tugella crossovers. There were quite a few of them.
Perhaps the most important drawback — This is not particularly efficient for a 2-liter engine with 238 hp. cooling system. Due to high loads, the cylinders are gradually deformed, and overheating and increased loads when starting the engine in cold weather are added to this. All this, naturally, reduces the engine life.
JLH-4G20TDB does not tolerate low-quality gasoline. Therefore, you need to fill in AI-95, and in hot weather, to avoid detonation, it is better to use AI-98 or AI-100 fuel. Due to the use of low-quality fuel, spark plugs and catalytic converter can quickly fail.
Timing belt life — 120 thousand km, but in difficult operating conditions (essentially in Russia), the resource is reduced to 80 thousand km. And closer to a mileage of 100 thousand km, it may be necessary to adjust the thermal clearances. During operation, carbon deposits form on the intake valves, and car owners themselves complain about leaks of crankshaft oil seals.
In general, the JLH-4G20TDB engine, although not reputed to be unreliable, like some PSA EP6 (Prince), but you need to carefully monitor the Monjaro and Tugella engine.
