Production will remain in Zwickau

Volkswagen has canceled plans to produce an all-electric ID. 3 at its main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany, due to low demand, adding that «every euro you have to spend matters».

Volkswagen planned to produce its ID hatchback. 3 at the Wolfsburg plant, but says that due to low demand its production will continue at the electric-only plant in Zwickau, in eastern Germany.

«Every euro we don't have to spend matters, — said VW production manager Christian Vollmer. — For this reason, we decided to continue merging the ID volume. 3 in Zwickau and effectively use the already fully equipped site».

The company has been reducing shifts in Zwickau for several months due to what it says is «low demand». Meanwhile, the automaker will continue to produce ICE and hybrid vehicles such as the Golf and Tiguan in Wolfsburg for now.
