Discord will fire 17% of staff to become “more flexible”

The layoffs did not end in 2023. Discord announces plans to cut 17% of its workforce. Management believes that laying off 170 workers will make the company “more flexible.” . This decision was not made lightly, but we are confident that it will help us better serve our users, our business and our mission in the long term,” says Discord CEO Jason Citron.

According to Citron, in recent years the company has done nothing but grow rapidly, and its staff has increased fivefold in four years. All this led to Discord becoming “less effective“.

This is Citron’s second “difficult decision” in the last six months. Last August, Discord had already laid off 4% of its employees.
