In the WLY CVT18 transmission, a planetary gear is combined with a torque converter
Quto.ru published details about the new CVT transmission used in the Lada Vesta. This is a Chinese WLY CVT18 unit, which is installed on many Chery cars. Structurally, the new gearbox is similar to the Jatco JF015E variator, which was previously installed on the Lada Vesta (when the work of the enterprise was supervised by Renault). But, unlike the Jatco JF015E, the WLY CVT18 does not have an oil pump pressure reducing valve.
Design feature of WLY CVT18 — the presence of both a torque converter (as in conventional automatic machines) and a planetary gear. It turns out to be a kind of hybrid: at low speeds the first stage operates, and at higher speeds the second comes into effect.
The mechanics interviewed by the publication are familiar with the WLY CVT18 from Chery cars. And they consider the gearbox reliable — capable of withstanding a mileage of 200-250 thousand km, subject to regular oil changes (every 30-40 thousand km).
«variator WLY CVT18 — this is a really good choice for Lada Vesta. It is more reliable than Jatco JF015E. The main thing — these are accurate accelerations, absence of overheating and timely oil changes, although AvtoVAZ will probably declare the unit maintenance-free», — explained Quto editor-in-chief Maxim Rakitin.
Recall that AvtoVAZ yesterday announced the launch of mass production of the Lada Vesta with a CVT and a 122-horsepower 1.8 EVO engine, but prices were not announced.
