SEMI Data for Q3 2023
Market participants cut spending on semiconductor manufacturing equipment procurement by 11% year-over-year to $25.6 billion, SEMI reported in its Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS) report.
At the same time, Chinese manufacturers increased purchases by 46% compared to the second quarter of this year and by 42% compared to the third quarter of last year.
“The decline in equipment bills in the third quarter of 2023 was due to lower chip demand,” said Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI. “However, China has demonstrated strong demand and purchasing power for mature node technologies, which is a sign of the industry's resilience and growth potential over the long term.”
The WWSEMS report, compiled from data provided by SEMI members and the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ), provides a summary of monthly performance indicators for the global semiconductor equipment industry.
