Chery is already dealing with the problem
Russian owners of Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max began to complain about the all-wheel drive of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max crossover. A small investigation showed that if previously the car was equipped with well-known components from ZF and BorgWarner, now Chery has added a third option — Chinese Faps coupling. This is where problems arose: if necessary, the rear wheels of the car simply do not connect, and it, in fact, is no different from any other front-wheel drive.
«According to the VIN number, the owners have German spare parts: Bosch and ZF. But in fact, the clutch and all-wheel drive unit — Chinese nonames. They would work fine, but the rear wheels do not connect at all. Dealers tried to fix it with firmware, but it got even worse, there was a hum and vibration, — wrote to «Chinese cars» owner of Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max Alexey Nikolaev.
«If you look into the profile chats dedicated to Chery cars, you will find out that at the moment some dealers are reflashing their control units with varying degrees of success. For some of the owners, this procedure turned out to be useful, and “the car began to give out rear-wheel drive only on the road.” However, for others the situation only worsened, and just like Alexey, vibration and hum were added to the ineffective operation of the rear wheels», — they write «Chinese cars».
As it turned out, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max began to be equipped with a Faps multi-plate clutch and a 3LN control unit from the second half of 2023. Chery is aware of the problem and is working on a solution; it should appear by the end of April. According to «Chinese Car», we are just talking about new firmware of the control unit: it will ensure the connection of the rear wheels exactly when it is needed — not earlier and not later.
