Changan has a completely new engine – a 2.5-liter internal combustion engine runs on a mixture of methanol and gasoline

While this is a prototype, it is going through the bench testing stage

Changan Automobile announced the start of bench testing of a completely new internal combustion engine — N25TM developed by Dongan Power. In the future, there should be a whole platform designed for such «green» motors.

There are no characteristics of the N25TM: it is only reported that the engine was started on the stand, and it ran smoothly. As for technical features, the N25TM is a typical modern internal combustion engine — with integrated exhaust manifold, variable valve timing system, «highly efficient» turbocharger, variable displacement oil pump, independent cooling of the cylinder block and cylinder head. It is reported that the thermal efficiency of the system can reach 43%.

The developers believe that simultaneous injection of methanol and gasoline, together with reduced emissions, will increase engine power and extend service life. At the same time, engineers had to re-develop the dual-fuel injection ramp and address the issue of the «highly corrosive nature of methanol fuel».
