According to research company IDC, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8 % during January-March – to 289.4 million units, and Samsung took first place among manufacturers with a market share of 20.8%, surpassing Apple.
iPhone shipments fell 10% in the first quarter due to increased competition from Android smartphone makers—Apple now has 17.3% of the market share. In third place is Xiaomi, one of China's leading smartphone makers, with a 14.1% share during the first quarter.
