Perhaps one day such a watch will come out
Some time ago it was reported that Apple had revised its plans to release Watch Ultra smartwatches with a microLED screen due to the high cost of the latter. Now it is reported that the project of such a watch has been canceled altogether.
The information comes from OSRAM, which announced that it will «reconsider its microLED strategy» after the «capstone project» was «unexpectedly cancelled». Counterpoint data says this project is related to rumors of an Apple Watch with a microLED display.
The same information was confirmed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, saying that the device will not appear in the foreseeable future.
My latest survey shows that Apple has canceled microLED Apple Watch projects because Apple believes microLED cannot add value to this product and manufacturing costs are too high to make it economically viable
How far into the future this is is unclear, but even if the initial plans were for 2026, we are probably talking about a significantly longer period.
Of course, sooner or later such screens will become cheaper, but for now Apple will have to update the Watch Ultra in some other way.
