At CES 2024, AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 8000G processor family for AM5 with integrated RDNA 3 graphics. The most powerful Ryzen 7 8700G chip with Radeon 780M costs $329, its graphics part competes in performance with desktop video cards NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 and 1060.
Despite the nomenclature indicating a new generation of CPUs, the processors are a variant of Zen4/RDNA3 laptops for desktop PCs. The Ryzen 8000G series is AMD's first socket AM5 chips with the XDNA Ryzen AI Neural Processing Unit (NPU). This only applies to the older 8-core Ryzen 7 8700G and 6-core Ryzen 5 8600G. The younger 6-core 8500G and 4-core 8300G use a smaller Phoenix die without a neural processor. The latter are equipped with Zen4c cores. Ryzen 8300G will be available to OEMs only.
All processors have a default TDP of 65W and feature integrated RDNA3 graphics: Radeon 780M (12CU), Radeon 760M (8CU), or Radeon 740M (4CU).
AMD compares the 8700G and 8600G to Intel's Core i7-14700K with integrated Xe-LP graphics chip. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770 has 32 execution units and is less powerful than the Xe-LPG architecture in the new Core Ultra 100 Meteor Lake series. Intel has not yet released a series of processors with integrated Alchemist graphics.
The Ryzen 8600G is expected to outperform the i7-14700K's graphics performance by up to 3.4 times in 1080p gaming, the 8700G will provide up to 4 times the advantage.

AMD also compares the 8700G to a Core i5-13400F-based system with a GeForce GTX 1650 desktop graphics card. AMD claims that their solution can improve gaming performance by 0.89 to 4.6 times. The main advantage of AMD is that there is no need to buy a separate discrete adapter, and this solution is also more energy efficient.
AMD Ryzen 7 8700G will sell for $329, Ryzen 5 8600G will cost $229, and Ryzen 5 8500G will cost $179. All processors will become available on January 31.
