Aeroflot wants to have a fleet of the same type, which will be easier to maintain
General Director of Aeroflot» Sergei Alexandrovsky in an interview with the TV channel «Russia 24» announced the air carrier’s desire to reconsider the contract for the supply of domestic aircraft, concluded last year at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.
«We are discussing the revision of all 339 aircraft, for which an agreement was initially signed with the UAC, to MC-21 in the basic configuration and a shorter version , currently in development. The start dates for deliveries are the same — fourth quarter of 2025», — said the head of Aeroflot.
Let us recall that initially the contract envisaged the delivery of 210 MS-21, 40 Tu-214 and 89 SJ-100 aircraft, but now the national carrier wants to completely abandon «Superjets& raquo; and Tu-214 in favor of MS-21. This will allow the company to have a single-type fleet (there is no need to talk about a mono-fleet as long as Boeing and Airbus are in operation), which is easier to maintain.
The reason for revising the contract was the UAC's adjustment to the aircraft production deadlines. Thus, it was assumed that the first import-substituted SJ-100 with PD-8 engines will be delivered in 2023, but in fact they will appear at carriers in the same 2025, when the MC-21.
