The American lottery Washington Lottery was forced to remove its advertising AI application after , how it erroneously generated an explicit image in response to a rather banal request.
ArsTechnica reported on the unusual incident.
AI generates “dream vacation”
The Test Drive a Win lottery website was designed to help visitors visualize the vacations they could theoretically take if they won the lottery.
To do this, you had to upload a photo of your face. Next, you add a description and the AI generates an image.
The site included an option to upload a headshot that would be integrated into an AI-generated picture of what you might look like during that vacation.
Swim with sharks
50-year-old Megan from the suburbs of Washington decided to use the application and asked the AI to generate an image of herself “swimming with sharks.”

But instead the AI showed a naked woman sitting on the bed. Behind her are fish and algae.

Developers' reaction
Washington Lottery officials said they “worked closely with AI developers to establish strict parameters.” And within a month of operation, the application generated “thousands” of relevant images.
However, one generation in response to a trivial request was enough to close the application.
The developers did not specify which artificial intelligence models were used to create the site. However, the developers set rules according to which people in the images must be fully clothed.

After the incident, a thorough check of all parameters was carried out. And although they were “happy with the settings,” they still “decided to close the site out of an abundance of caution because we don’t want something like this to happen again.”
A lottery representative noted that controlling AI-generated content may not be so easy. Although models such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E have filters to prevent the creation of sexually or violent images, researchers found that these models still occasionally generate inappropriate images.
In addition, with a little effort, developers themselves can bypass security systems. For example, recently Microsoft Artificial Intelligence Developer Shane Jones discovered security holes and forced the DALL-E neural network to draw explicit and violent images.
