This is the official position
The Bavarian auto giant BMW has finally abandoned plans to produce a luxury pickup truck. According to the company's senior vice president of brand and product management, Bernd Kerber, such a model does not correspond to the image of the brand, which always strives to create dream cars for customers.
Kerber’s position contradicts the statements made a year ago by the head of BMW Design, Domagoj Dukec, who then reported that Munich was looking at the premium segment of pickup trucks. However, now BMW has firmly decided that there will be no pickups in the line.
In Munich they do not exclude the possibility of releasing a full-fledged SUV as a competitor to such models as the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser. At the same time, we are not talking about a new model with a chopped body design, so fashionable today. According to some reports, BMW may present particularly brutal versions of the existing BMW X3 or X5 crossovers.
Thus, the Bavarians will focus on expanding the family of crossovers and SUVs, but they are not ready to follow the example of competitors from Detroit and develop a completely new segment of pickup trucks.
