Rimac, the Croatian car company best known for its Nevera hypercar, is about to enter new territory.
The automaker, known for its cutting-edge electric vehicles and a division of parent company Bugatti, has unveiled Project 3 Mobility.
In early 2024, the company plans to introduce a self-driving robotaxi with a high degree of autonomy as a pilot prototype. Rimac reportedly expects it to enter commercial service by 2026. While specific details about the project are currently limited, Autocar reports that Rimac has confirmed that the robotaxi development is partly supported by Kia. Founder and CEO Mate Rimac told the publication that Rimac wants to «change the lives of more people»by providing affordable and environmentally friendly urban transport.
The Rimac vehicle is expected to have the ability to operate without human intervention. Rimac's comprehensive plan includes the development of supporting infrastructure such as charging stations and parking spaces. Mate Rimac describes a robotaxi as «a car, but a completely different type».
Project 3 Mobility operates as a separate brand within Rimac, which is distinct from both the high-performance supercar manufacturer and Bugatti.
