Preparatory work will begin in 2025
Russian Minister of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev told reporters that the active deployment of 5G cellular networks at domestic base stations will begin in major cities of the country in 2026. He mentioned this during the presentation of the domestic 5G base station at the exhibition and forum «Russia».
According to Shadayev, preparatory work to launch 5G networks will take place in 2025. The total supply of base stations until 2030 will be about 75 thousand units, and from 2028 operators will have to purchase exclusively domestic stations.
It was previously reported that by 2030, 5G network coverage will be provided in Russian territories, where 60% of the country’s population lives. As for 6G networks, Shadayev said that this issue is being studied: research and development work will begin next year.
